Camp Fire and Camp Out

Camp fire came to fast like they all do; snack cart came meds were given for bedtime and songs were sang off key; but we love every second of it!

After camp fire, the 15 and 16 year old's headed down to the tee-pees for a camp out.
Heather is a genius for thinking of this; these camp outs with the older kids are so much fun. We played catch phrase, headband game, told (un)scary stories and laughed until our stomachs hurt!

25th Anniversary!

After all of our activities had settled down and we rinsed the pie from our hair, it was time for some our special guests and dinner! Some may know that this is our 25th year of Camp Quality KY!! I cannot even put into words how special this camp is to me and my family, this is my 5th year as a companion and I love it more and more everyday.

 Some old friends; Eric a past director! We were also lucky enough to meet come CQ national board members!

 Dr. Bertelone from Kosair childrens hospital; he knows a lot of the kids and the kids called him Dr. Bologna : ) It was very nice of him to stop by!

 Nurse Nancy... oh Nurse Nancy. Nancy has been here since the beginning of CQ KY 25 years ago. She does so much and has so much love in her heart for every single person here at camp. She made a little speech, and he had an original Camper (Timmy) stop by and sing for us.
After she finished up, a few past campers now companions came up to say a few words (Angelina, Eddie, Jamie and Seth) and it was so nice of them so share their memories and stories of Nancy with everyone.

And of course we had some of last years camper graduates stop by : )

It was a beautiful day, full of beautiful people!

Tuesday Activities

I may have mentioned we played a little BINGO and the YMCA came and helped out in the morning which was a lot of fun!
Then we went to lunch and after that we had
some afternoon activities; Swimming, Archery, Zip lining,  Arts and Crafts (etc.) the kids in the activity sessions can choose what they want to do during this time and rotate through out the week to get to everything!

Tuesday Turkey & Pie Day

Today is Thanksgiving day! We had a couple pligrims and turkey hunters at breakfast this morning for the theme and after breakfast we played BINGO and the staff from the Floydsburg YMCA came out to play some field games with us!

After lunch and a few morning activities was the PIE FIGHT! It gets pretty competitive out there for the older kids and companions but that makes is even more fun. Everyone put on their old t-shirts and bathing suits, tied their hair into plastic bags (that would get pulled off anyway) and took their place around the table to be handed fresh thick pie cream.

 I know I mentioned the staff here at camp in another post, but to all the parents reading this please know how good they are to us. This is our 4th year at Country Lake and a lot of the staff has been here as long as we have and they are absolutely wonderful. They got in the pie fight with us and had a blast!

 Camper Companion Love!

It was a beautiful day outside, and the local fire department was here as usual to help hose us all off. Now its off to horizontial time, and to rest a little bit before the big anniversary night tonight!

Costume Dance!!!

Every year we have a dance where all the girls dress up and get their hair and make-up done by professionals and the boys wear their tuxedo t-shirts. But this year was a little different; because the theme of the day was Halloween we made it a costume dance instead, and I think it was a hit!

It was a good night to say the least; everyone danced and sang to lots of songs! Jeremy our DJ who has been coming at least all 5 years I have been coming is so great to us! He knows the kids by names, takes special song requests and makes it an even better time for everyone!

Horizontal Time

Oh the famous horizontal time... We don't call it nap time because they dont like naps right now. The little girls did not want to nap today, so instead they built a fort of sheets in their bunk  : )

Halloween Morning activities

We had some dress up costumes this morning, and as a member of the Halloween team we get first in meal line all day today; Yippie!
After breakfast we had a little bit of rain, but nothing major. Most activities went on as planned and everyone went about their ways.
Low elements is probably my favorite activity at camp. At our past camp ground (Camp Loucon) it was called the ropes course, or something like that and it is SO much fun.Its very simple activities (getting all team members over a wall, lining up ourselves by middle names without talking, etc.) You see a lot of the quietness in some of the kids come out which is really nice to see.
One of our favorite workers was so nice, and explained the different activities we would be doing as a team, and the importance of motivation.

 This challenge was to fit as many people as we could onto a small wooden box (2x2 feet wide maybe?) The record was 18, so of course we tried for 19. we got close but maybe the little kids will have better luck.

 The point of low elements is to work as a team. I mentioned that we see the shy kids kind of come into their element in these activities and thats what its all about. These challenges are very silly and would never happen in everyday life we they make us laugh and have fun.
